That’s me as snug as a bug in a rug with my pal Pinky. I have many places to sleep - a few cat beds, baskets, and cubbies strategically placed about the house so I can sleep wherever I feel like. I do like my spacious king size bed (that I share at night with my human) like you see here. Are any of you cats out there in the market for a new bed? Check out CatsPlay for a really big selection!

A cat will spend nearly 30% of its life grooming itself.
It’s true! Look at my snow-white fur. We cats are super-clean, one of the very many reasons we are the dominant species of this planet. Thanks for looking and check back for more interesting facts about us! - Leo

That’s me hanging out on my second favorite high perch, the cat tree in my room. Well, I share *my* room with *my* king-size bed with my mom, but in any case…
I usually enjoy getting my picture taken and I’m very good at posing, but I look a little bummed here since I have to admit, I’m a little jealous of the stuffed animal. I think I’m much cuter than he is.

Hey! That’s yours truly playing in a big cardboard box. I like to scratch the surface maniacally and I get REALLY excited when I hear things scratching on the other side and I POUNCE!
But after a few minutes I usually get bored with it, like I do with most anything, and then I just want some hugs. Did I mention I looove to get hugs? I’m a needy cat, what can I say?

In the words of the famous feline Garfield, Mondays suck! But I make the best of them by heaving a huge sigh and taking a cat nap, and things seem to get better.

Snuggling with my favorite buddy, Pinky, lifts my Monday blues!
Have a great week! -Bambi.

Cat is court-ordered for a home-arrest.
Lewis, the infamous scratch-happy cat who was on death row, so to speak, for terrorizing his neighborhood by attacking people, was ordered by a Connecticut judge to stay indoors at all times. Lewis the cat has been featured on People Magazine and has his own page in myspace.com built by a fan. Ruth Cisero, his owner, has to complete 50 hours of community service, and her record will be expunged after a 2-year probation. If Lewis finds his way outside and attacks again, Ms. Cisero will be sent to jail. A negligent homicide case slipped under the media’s radar since all the attention went to this kitty on trial.

Zoo rents out cheetahs for events
Wellington Zoo in New Zealand rents out its two juvenile cheetahs for special events for $2500. Some are appalled at this stunt, while others claim that the big cats enjoy the outings, and that it spreads the word for conservation. I side with the former. But see what you think.

Shelter overcrowded with dogs and cats
Too often, I see articles about animals filling up shelters who do their best but simply have no room. This is another case. Please spay or neuter your pet! The Animal Friends Humane Society in Butler County, Cincinnati, is overwhelmed with cats. They are launching a campaign to open up a larger shelter to accommodate the 7000 animals that come through its doors each year.

Lady Lion Tamer Still Going Strong.
Kay Rosaire, who’s been rescuing big cats since 1973, is still actively keeping tigers and lions in Long Island, as well as running Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization, in Sarasota, Fla. Despite receiving a 200-stitch love bite from one of her big cats (her only injury in 35 years), she still loves them and is dedicated to her cause. A lion once saved her life from a potentially fatal attack from a tiger mid-show. She’s in Las Vegas this summer, taking the reigns from Siegfreid and Roy.

Why Cats Don’t Paint
Cats As Artists: An elaborate hoax…or is it?
by Juli Kobayashi
Are cats amazing and intelligent? Without a doubt. But cats as artists? My cat, Leo, has a vast vocal range and perhaps he considers every different utterance a work of art…performance art, if you will. So we shouldn’t be cross when he hollers in the dead of night…he’s expressing himself! When I got the “Why Cats Paint” calendar a few years ago, I was delighted by the photographs and enthralled by the concept. I didn’t think twice about doubting its validity at the time.
I never did much research about it, until I recently stumbled across the website for the Museum of Non-Primate Art (MONPA). Is it a spoof? Even though animals haven’t built spaceships, painted the Mona Lisa, developed the theory of relativity, or sliced bread, it’s a fact that animals are capable of extraordinary things. Could artistic expression also be a talent some animals possess?
I’ll take you through what’s on the Museum of Non-Primate Art site, examine the corresponding book, and offer you my thoughts on the subject. Read on! There’s something in this article for all cat-lovers, people-against-pretentious-art-critics, and anyone with a healthy sense of humor. Read the rest of this entry »
