Cat News September 5th, 2006
Here are some recent cat-related news from around the nation, with some commentary by our cats below…
A Lucky Cat Named Lucky
A black cat called Lucky, in Liverpool, UK, truly lived up to his name. The crafty feline took a 200 mile holiday to London, where he was found by the RSPCA who scanned his identifying microchip, and were amazed to find that he had come all the way from Merseyside. His owner was delighted to have Lucky back home, but was flabbergasted at how Lucky traveled so far!

An Anonymous $20,000 donation to a cat shelter
The Cowley County Humane Society in Arkansas received a $20,000 donation in order to purchase new cat cages for its shelter from an unnamed donor. This donation came at an opportune time, since it allowed the large population of cats looking for homes to be housed in more adoption-friendly and health-conscious cages. They are holding a Cat Adoption Celebration on September 9th and offering spayed or neutered cats for $5 and unaltered cats for $35. For more information about the Cat Adoption Celebration call the Cowley County Humane Society at (620) 221-1698 or (620) 442-1698.
Talking Cat Ozzy Spreads Cheer to Vets
Ozzy, nicknamed after the metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, whose registered name is “Excalibur’s Purr of My Heart,” is a celebrity Blue British Shorthair. He was a hit in cat show circuit, surviving one attempted cat-napping incident, as well as receiving an offer from former Senator Jesse Helms to buy him. He’s still owned by Claudia Evans of Winston-Salem, and is part of a pet therapy program at Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, Virginia, where he visits war veterans. He’s also been featured on Animal Planet’s show, “Animal Miracles.” And the kicker is, what can he say? He doesn’t speak on demand (what self respecting cat would?) but he reportedly can say “Yes,” “No,” “Mama,” and a certain four letter word beginning with “s” and rhyming with “fit” - he even said it in church once!

Leo & Bambi’s 2¢ on the Ozzy article:
Talking cats? Baaah. What’s so special about him? I bet I can out talk Ozzy! And do I get to be on a tv show? Noooo. - Leo

Don’t make me roll my eyes at you, Leo. I don’t see you doing any charity work. Just because you’re loud doesn’t make you special. Jeez. - Bambi
